Can i get paid directly for a medical bill due to an automobile accident

by Juanita Bogle
(Dayton, Ohio)

I want to receive my payment directly for my medical bill am i allowed to do that?

Answer:

Hello Juanita,

Can you? Yes, you could as long as the medical provider has not put a lien (put the insurance company on notice of the bill).

Will the insurance company do this? Maybe. Usually attorneys recover all the damages and they pay the medical providers (they seek a discount, which they often get). Because attorneys understand that the bill is owed, they are personally required to make arrangement to make the payment to the medical provider.

Insurance companies are a little more reluctant to allow you to do this because the chance that you would collect the payment and never pay the provider.

They are not bound to do it either way.

Good luck,
