Cancelling insurance claims

my car was stolen and involved in a hit and run.

my car was recovered two days later and had only a very minor scratch on it.

Can I cancel the claim I started or will the adjuster push for it anyway?

Thank you

Answer:

Hello,

Well,

there is not such a thing as "canceling" an insurance claim. You can ask the claim to be closed or you can indicate that you are not seeking coverage.

The adjuster can close the claim per your request, but the claim will still be on the record. In other words, the claim could have an impact on your rates.

The impact usually is very minor to worry about it (i.e., $1 per six months), unless there are other issues on your claim that could raise concern (fraud, misrepresentation, violation of policy terms, etc).

I hope this information helps you.

Good Luck
