Do I have to get my car fixed once I get a repair check from my insurance company?

I already got a repair check from my insurance company. I negotiated getting the most I can without it being totaled. I got 2500 for my 98 Buick LeSabre while the car is valued 3-4 thousand dollars so I go a fair amount. It has 130000 miles.

The damage is my drivers side doors and is inconvenient to get in and out, but it does not effect the mechanical running of the car at all. I have been thinking about just taking the money and putting it toward a newer car and keep my 98 as an emergency second car. Can I do this or do I have to get it repaired?

Thanks,

Beverly

Answer:

Hello Beverly,

You can keep the money. You are paid for your damages and whatever you do with that is up to you. The only caveat is if you have a loan on that vehicle, but if the car is paid off, then you have not problem on keeping the money.

Good Luck,
