Hit and run claim

by Huong
(Galveston, TX)

I got my car hit and run about 4 or 5 months ago and I didn't claim insurance until now.

I have full cover insurance without hit and run option. Can I claim my insurance company now?

If so, do I need to estimate the repair cost before the insurance company do an investigation?

Answer:

Hello Huong,

If you have full coverage, then you likely have collision. You would have coverage there, but the insurance company will make an investigation as to why it took so long for you to make the claim.

They will also look for evidence of the collision, and a police report can be very helpful. You can go in and get an incident report (even now).

They will be asking a lot of questions, but yeah, you could make the claim.
