How much should I be expecting from my claim and how long does it take?

by Donnavan
(Milwaukee, WI USA)

I was the passenger in a car accident. I suffered minor injuries. The police and the insurance company determined that it was the driver of the other car's fault within a day.

I did not contact anyone but the other driver's insurance company (State Farm) called me and said when I am done with medical treatment I should call to settle the claim.

I've been to the emergency room already and it was determined that I had a right knee contusion. I was just wondering how much payout should I be expecting and how long it will take to get it.

Answer:

Hello Donnavan,

Well, it will take as long as it takes for you to recover (so long as this is less than the statute of limitation of your state). This may be a few months or a few years. You will have to check with a local attorney on that.
