Insurance grace period for coverage after a voluntary cancellation of coverage

I recently canceled full coverage insurance on a vehicle I am buying, in order to change insurance companies. But before I could get coverage with a different company I had an accident in the car.

My question is do I have a grace period from the previous company where I may have accident protection from my previous policy?

Answer:

Hello,

Most likely you do not have a grace period. Grace period applies to when you are late on your payment or the insurance carrier is cancelling your policy and they want to give you time to find coverage elsewhere.

However, if you have a policy, there may be coverage for a newly acquired vehicle, but it may be hard to show if you called to specifically cancel coverage on that car.

Good Luck,
