Is car insurance void if wrong engine size was given to insurance company?

I was in a car crash, my friend was driving, we hit a wall he has comprehensive car insurance but told them it was 1.4L petrol engine but it was actually a 1.6? Can I still claim off his car insurance?

Answer to Is car insurance void if wrong engine size was given to insurance company?

Hello,

Well, it is hard to say without more facts. If you were simply reporting the claim and felt like did not have enough time to give the exact details and/or you were unsure as to the actual engine size, it should not make a difference.

If, however, the insurance company thinks there is some sort of deceit, inducement, misrepresentation to get a "better" engine, the it is possible that they an investigation regarding coverage. They may get the SIU (Special Investigation Unit) to see if they can find anything indication of fraud, etc.

Other than that, you are being overly cautious.

Good Luck,
