Rear ended with no insurance

I just got a car given to me I haven't purchased ins yet and I was rear ended(their fault they gave me their insurance info can I still make a claim on their insurance if I don't have insurance?

Answer:

Hello,

Well... Maybe. It depends on different things. In most states your are okay, but in California you are not. If you do not have insurance in California, then you cannot make a claim against that hit you.

Also, I am assuming that by the statement "a car was given to me" you mean the car was a gift. However, if the car was borrowed or the gift was not completed (delivery of title), the you might be able to seek coverage under the policy of the person who hit you.

Other than that, you should be able to make a claim against the responsible party (depending on your state).

Good Luck
