Who's responsible | Coverage issue regarding paying for damages to trailer

by Robert

Borrowed a log trailer from a friend. No written contract...goes down the road and have a wreck.

My fault. In the wreck the borrowed trailer is damaged severely. I have collision insurance on my truck.

The owner had no insurance on the trailer...Does my insurance company pay the claim for damages on the trailer I was pulling. I have a trailer but was using his as a loaner.
thanks

Answer to Who's responsible | Coverage issue regarding paying for damages to trailer

Hello Robert,

Who's responsible: You are. You caused damage to the trailer you borrowed.

Next is to determine if you have coverage for the trailer under your policy. Look at your auto policy under the Collision section. Look at the definition of "covered auto." Sometimes this definition, under this section, will extend to trailers.

If the definition only covers you covered auto listed on the declaration's page, then that is the only coverage you can be afforded.

It is always a good idea to talk to an attorney.

Good Luck
