Can I ask for the money and don't do the repair?

I was involved in a car accident and the other party insurance accepted responsibility.

They want to take the car to their shop and do the repair. Can i ask for the money and don't do the repair?

Answer:

You sure can. This is your car and what you choose to do to it is your business. You can ask for a check. Note, they will pay per their own estimate, not yours. Also, you do have to show that you are the owner (the registration or title).

If there is more than one owner, then they will make the check to whoever is listed.
