Hit and run | Rates going up

I was in an accident last week, a car pulled out in front of me and I hit them. Only when I looked up to see they were pulling away, never STOPPED!

I called the police and highway patrol filed the report and said I would have to turn it in o my insurance since the person left.

I also have a witness that saw them leave. So if tearing up my new car is not bad enough, now I am learning that I am going to pay for this in the long run.

I was told by my insurance that it has to be filed under my collision, which I have a 500 dollar deductible and my insurance will probably go up because of this.

How can this be that I am punished for this when I did not cause it? Seems to me totally wrong!

Answer:

Well it is wrong. However, if you did not have insurance, you would have to pay 100% of your damages.

Your insurance company is only doing what they are supposed to do.

The person left and will probably never be found.

About your rates, they don't always go up. Wait and see. It depends on your claim history and other factors. This is why you have insurance, to use it when you need it.

Good Luck
