Stalling on paying my claim.

by Jocelyn
(Florida)

My car was stolen on July 3rd 2009 and my insurance company is saying that the investigation is still going on three and a half months later.

My question is "How long does an insurance company have before they must pay a claim in the state of Florida?"

Answer:

Hello Jocelyn,

Well, usually insurance companies have 30 days to conduct an adequate investigation. After 30 days, they must put in writing the reason of the delay.

If they have not put this on writing or you feel like you are getting the run around. Contact the department of insurance and file a complaint against the carrier.
